David L. Businelli, AIA (dbusinelli@S16A.com) is an architect and CEO/founder of Studio 16 Architecture PLLC, Staten Island, NY. He was the President of Salvadeo Associates Architects, P.C. from 1996 until 2008; in the fall of 2008 he reinvented his firm and founded Studio 16. He holds a BS Arch from the City College of New York School of Architecture and Environmental Studies and is licensed to practice architecture in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. David is responsible for the design of many homes, commercial buildings, medical facilities and restaurants throughout the Tri-State area and has won numerous awards, including four awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In the April-May 2008 issue of Primo Magazine, David was named among the top Italian architects practicing today in America. His work has been published nationally in Contract magazine, (cover story Feb. 2003, “Active Design”), AIA Architect, Metal Architecture magazine and locally in the Staten Island Advance, Arts and Letters, and Industry magazine. International publication of his work includes the book 2000 Architects and many websites.
In October of 2008, David received the Premio Della Fedelta Al Lavoro, Del Progresso Economica E Del Lavoro Pordonese Nel Mondo, (Award of Achievement for Economic and Business Progress of the People of Pordenone in the World) from the Chamber of Commerce of the Province of Pordenone, in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.
In 2017 David was named one of the 25 Most Influential People on Staten Island by City and State Magazine.
David is a Past President of both AIA New York State and AIA Staten Island and the co- founder of the AIA Staten Island Design Awards Program. He was a co-founder and Director of SImagines, the Staten Island Planning for Recovery Program, conceived in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. David is the Chair of the Board of the Staten Island Museum.
David lives on Staten Island with his wife, Joan and daughter, Noel. When off-duty, he enjoys surf fishing, reading and movies.
